Monday, Monday . . .

. . . can't trust that day. Monday, Monday. Sometimes it just turns out that way. Oh Monday mornin', you gave me no warnin' of what was to be . . . Anybody singin' along yet? Probably not. The song I'm referencing hit the #1 charts on May 7, 1966 and according to The Billboard Book of Number One Hits was “the first song recorded by a fully sexually integrated group to go to Number One.” The name of that "fully sexually integrated group" (a description I somehow find humorous) was the Mamas and Papas. Although I remember the song well, loved it then, and still love it, I was only 12 years old when it was recorded - just letting you know that I'm old enough but not prehistoric or anything.

Now, with that bit of useless information out of the way, I'll tell you about my card, which was inspired by this card I came across yesterday on the Clean & Simple blog. My card would actually have been more like Natasha's had my cardstock not buckled when I embossed the Nestabilities rectangle. Embossing it again with the Cuttlebug folder became necessary and was what saved it from the wastebasket. A link to a tutorial on how to use a folder to emboss around a solid area is noted in the post immediately preceding this one as well as my "More Blossoms & Butterflies" post. To create the stamped design I masked off the rectangle with about eight Post-It notes, stamped the leaves and script background with Topiary ink, and then used Sweet Leaf ink and a round sponge to fill in the background. I added a simple sentiment on a tiny tag adhered with foam tape and tucked partially under the bow. Making this card required a trip down to the storeroom to retrieve a retired CTMH set. I've seen script backgrounds used on quite a few lovely cards recently and was thinking about trying to find a new script stamp when remembered I already had one . . . maybe . . . if I hadn't sold it. While I have plenty that I'd like to get rid of, I was relieved to find this one and several other favorites that I returned to my corner. Back to this evening's card, I love it, with "clean" and "simple" being the two best words I can think of to describe it.

Materials & Tools: White Daisy and Topiary cardstock; Topiary and Sweet Leaf ink pads; CTMH Autumn Splendor and Air Mail (retired) stamp sets; Papertrey Ink Mixed Messages stamp set; Ribbon from Walmart; Cuttlebug w//Nestabilities Large Rectangles set and Swiss Dots embossing folder; Round sponge.

I'm not going to go into the details of my lousy day at work, only that it was like the song in that morning gave me know warning of what was to be. If it had, I would have stayed in bed. Marv just glanced in at me and asked, "Are you tired, honey?" Tired isn't the word. I feel like I've been run over by a truck. Luckily, I know that tomorrow is a new day with the potential of being a good one. On that positive note, I'm going to wander over to my corner to see if I'm capable of creating something. If not, I'm going to hit the futon and find some old comedy or something mindless to watch on television - no news, no politics, nothing that makes me think. For you, I hope that your Tuesday is terrific. Thanks for stopping by!

I certainly remember that song and I was only one. It could be the years that I listened to the Oldies station!! I love your card. It is awesome like most of yours are. I can't wait until I get a chance to try your little trick with the cuttlebug.

Sounds like you had a Monday with a vengeance! So sorry to hear that. I do hope the rest of your week improves, although if I remember you have some deadlines this week don't you?

Dare I say I wasn't even a year old when that song was number one? But I DO know it and I WAS singing along, even though I can't carry a tune in a bucket.

Your card is oh so nice and I honestly cannot wait until I can try the technique you used myself.

Hang in there friend, this too shall pass...right?!? Ü
