Something Bright . . .

The inspiration for tonight's card came from a couple of awesome cards that have caught my eye recently. First, the colors were inspired by Kelly's fun card on her KJ's Stamp Pad blog. The funky flower was inspired by this card on Kristina Werner's KWernerDesign blog. The flower Kristina used for her card is a Prima Lollipops fabric flower. While looking around for these flowers, I saw the word 'canvas' somewhere in a description, which makes sense to me. With some canvas, gesso, and acrylic paint, I think one could make some very cool flowers. All I had at my disposal last night, however was paper, so I decided to try to emulate the look with cardstock. Using circle Nestabilities, I traced four circles onto Sunflower cardstock and then made a conscientious effort to cut them out not so neatly. I stamped polka dots on a couple of them with stamps from Papertrey Ink's Polka Dot Basics set and then used my Edge Distressor tool to rough up the edges. The next step involved running each circle through the paper corrugator multiple times like I did with my leaves a few cards back. Then I 'ironed' them out a bit and assembled my flower. The leaves and stem are from the Angel Whispers set. I like the bright colors, although were I to do it all over again, I would probably stick with the small polka dot stamp. A flower made with two shades of the same color would be fun, too, as would black and white with a bright red or pink or yellow or . . . center. You see where this is going. Something different, something fun. The last thing I have to say about it is that I love the contrast of the gingham ribbon against the polka dots. Oh, and my paper corrugator has seen more action in the last few days than it has in all the years I've had it. LOL.

Materials & Tools: White Daisy, Sunflower, and Topiary cardstock; Doodlebug Design Black Eyelet paper; Black and Topiary ink pads; Angel Whispers and Papertrey Ink Polka Dot Basics stamp sets; Black Button (source unknown); Black gingham ribbon; White crochet cotton; Edge Distressor tool; Nestabilities Classic Circles set; Fiskars paper corrugator.

I'm tired tonight and seriously need to let common sense prevail and go to bed at a decent time. Since I've seen the election season thus far, I suppose I'd better watch the debate first, even though, for a variety of reasons, I'm weary of the whole works and wish it over. Did I actually make the comment at one point that I thought it was going to be fun right up until the end? Wrong . . . With nothing remotely intelligent to day, I'll sign off. I hope yours was a great day. I'll catch you tomorrow.
