Nothing Better…

A Tweet_2_Mar 2010

… Than starting out the weekend with a sketch challenge. This card is my take on Taylored Expressions Sketch Challenge #106. Unlike the cards I’ve made using digital images this week, this one is all stamped.

The background was created with my Friend Definition stamp stamped with Bamboo ink. I stamped the branch from the “A Tweet” set with Garden Green ink and then filled in what I interpreted to be the wood part of the branches with my Chocolate marker. I stamped the bird with Goldrush ink on the background piece before stamping it again with Twilight ink on a scrap of Colonial White cardstock. I cut out the bird and its “freehand” wing, inking their edges with Desert Sand to add some depth. I also used a foam texture tool to daub some ink around the edges of the focal point piece and the three one-inch squares I’d stamped with a stamp from the Noted Backgrounds set. After attaching the bird’s body, I used a 1/16th inch pop dot to attach its wing. Make sense? I hope so.

Materials & Tools: Colonial White, Cocoa, and Twilight cardstock; Topstitch paper packet; Bamboo, Desert Sand, Cocoa, Garden Green, Goldrush, and Twilight ink pads; Chocolate marker; Hero Arts Friend Definition stamp; Close To My Heart A Tweet, Noted Backgrounds, and Springtime stamp sets; Antiqued Copper brads and Mini Medley Accents Collection; Foam Texture Tool; EK Success 1/16th inch “pop dot.”

Happy Friday! While it was an OK workweek, I had no qualms about heading for home this afternoon. LOL. I have no specific plans for the weekend with the exception of helping Dustin write a 1,000-word biography that outlines his work history. Just like his mama thought he would, he pulled off the aptitude test he took last night. His credit score checked out, and as he already has FBI clearance for a government account he is involved with and has never had as much as a parking ticket, he is confident he will pass a criminal background check. On Monday, he is going to Minneapolis for a seminar on Tuesday, which is the next step in the hiring process. His dad and I are so excited for him.

And, I’m not the only blogger with good news this week. If you haven’t done so already, you need to congratulate Alanna for having passed the final part of her CPA exam and Kari whose daughter gave birth to a beautiful baby boy today. Life is good!

Tonight, I’m going to straighten up my corner, so I can have fun messing it up again. Enjoy your weekend, friends, and if you’re not too busy, stop back to see what I’ve drummed up for Simple Saturday. Later …

I love it, Kathi. You know how I love birdies!
I hate to say that I had to send all three of those sympathy cards in my last blog post. I just haven't had the heart to do much else, but I'm determined to get in my studio and pump out some things tomorrow.
Did you see the sneak peek - Keynotes online? yeeeHAW!!!

As I look at your beautiful card, Kathi, I can hear the birds outside waking up and singing their songs. (I think we might have been in the miss category of the latest snow that was supposed to be hit and miss for Denver). I can just see your bird coming to life and joining them. Love it!

Sounds like you will have a wonderfully relaxing weekend! Good luck to your son in his new adventure!

Life IS good for our friends isn't it? Although my dear friend Kelly lost her grandmother the other day. :( She is in a better place as they discovered a mass in her brain.

Your card is fabulous Kathi. I love that bird and really need to get it inky.

How fun about your son. It sounds like things are moving along quite nicely.

Lastly, thanks for the shoutout. I am still super excited.

Another favorite Kathi card!!! I have a bulging folder of inspiration with your name on it! I love the way you used the gold undertone for the bird - it really gives it a neat look on the paper. You are so smart.

Have a perfect weekend!
Hugs.
