Simple Pleasures

A co-worker on maternity leave stopped by work today with her two-week-old son. Holding him, running my finger along his still-downy cheek, gazing into deep blue eyes that knowingly stared back into mine produced in me such a warm fuzzy feeling - a simple pleasure. Protected, fed on demand, and generally doted on, all is right in little Oliver's world.

The sentiment stamps included in the Verve Visual sets played a big role in my decision to purchase them. The one I used on my card tonight is a favorite. I kept the design simple to fit the theme.

Materials & Tools: White Daisy and Black cardstock; Ocean, Holiday Red, Topiary, and Black ink pads; Verve Visual Floral Whimsey stamp set; Cranberry grosgrain ribbon; Cuttlebug w/Swiss Dots embossing folder; Stampin' Up Horizontal Slot punch; 3M foam mounting tape.

Most of the simple pleasures I experience are the result of my association with children. The majority of my worries involve children as well. I believe that a parent's single, most important job is to protect his or her children. I believe that laws should be in place to protect children. Last night, I learned that a law I thought existed, doesn't. There are only suggested "guidelines," which are essentially worthless. I was flabbergasted. I took the subject up with a young father/co-worker/friend this morning. He told me I should run for public office and that my platform should be children. If I thought I could make a difference, I would. Instead I find myself shaking my head over the fact that there is so little common sense exercised these days and that so many are so concerned about their "rights" that they give no thought to what is right.

So, were you expecting a little humor tonight? I'm sorry. What you got was a tangent. Every once in a while I get a sliver in my butt, and I have to make a little noise. I will probably write a letter to my elected officials and share my thoughts. Who knows? It might make a difference.

My husband is on his way home from the golf course, bringing me cuisine from McDonald's, which has become a Wednesday evening tradition. It's the same sandwich every week, one I've dubbed "cheap chicken." I'd better eat it while it's warm. Thanks for stopping. I'll catch you later.

Ohhhhh Kathi! You are making it so hard for me to resist!! I'm going to have to scrounge for pennies I think. This is a beautiful card. Love the colors and the sentiment.

I enjoy reading about your interests and passions. I hope you find some resolution to your current concerns about children.
