Playing Around with the Brayer

Before I put my brayer away, I played a little more. This first card would have looked better had I mounted my stamped elements on Bamboo cardstock instead of Colonial White, which, unfortunately, looks snow white in the photo. The leaves were stamped with New England Ivy on glossy cardstock. I used my brayer to apply Garden Green and Olive ink over the top. I didn't end up with as much color variation as I would have liked. In other words, I need more practice!

Materials & Tools: Colonial White cardstock; Glossy white cardstock; New England Ivy, Olive, and Garden Green ink pads; Autumn Splendor and Joy Forever stamp sets; Gold mini brads; Brayer; Sponge dauber.

My second card is my attempt at the Crayon Resist technique where you add highlights to the stamped images with a white crayon before applying your background color with a brayer. When you have your color down, you wipe away the crayon with a tissue. I used Blush and Hollyhock for my background colors, and for whatever reason, the finish was kind of speckled. To off set the "kind of" I speckled the whole thing with Hollyhock ink. As for the placement of my sentiment, that was determined by the fact that I'd missed one of the flowers with my crayon. It worked out.

Materials & Tools: Black and White Daisy cardstock; Glossy white cardstock; Black, Blush, and Hollyhock ink pads; Joy Forever and Verve Visual Floral Whimsy stamp sets; Retired CTMH Speckled Background stamp; Ribbon from Michaels; Black Bitty Brads; White Crayon; Brayer; 3M foam mounting tape.

With a little break in the action and everything under control in the kitchen, I had just enough time this morning to slip this post in. When the festivities end, I'll most likely be back . . . Have a nice day! Hug your dad, husband, and sons! Later . . .

So, assuming I actually find time to craft, I will add GLOSSY CS to my list of needed things to purchase!

Very, very nice! Never made it out to my craft room today...so I didn't get to try out my brayer. Ah well, hopefully soon.

Love that you show different techniques, too!
