Simple Saturday

Simple Saturday is kind of a dumb title considering every day (and every card) is pretty darned simple around here. Oh well, it sounds catchy . . . My card was inspired by one in CTMH's new Originals book. As you can see, my arm didn't get tired from too much stamping on this one. The flowers were cut with an EK Success punch that I've had for eons, and I inked the edges of them to give them a little dimension. I punched green hearts and cut them in half to create the leaves. To give them a little more pizzazz, I scored a vein on each one with a stylus and then sanded them a bit. With no Scor-Pal at my house yet, I embossed the lines on the green background piece using an EK Success Empressor tool and mat. The white cardstock is textured, and the buttons were sewn to the card using pink Waxy Flax. Be warned, because it's gloomy outside this weekend, the cards I make might be bright . . . and cheerful! Paper sunshine!!

Materials & Tools: Sweet Leaf, Topiary, and Carnation Pink (retiring) cardstock; White textured cardstock; Topiary and Carnation Pink (retiring) ink pads; Because of You stamp set; White buttons from Walmart; Pink Waxy Flax; Flower and heart punches; Empressor tool and Mat; Sanding block; Sponge daubers.

Here's a photo from our little party last night. Because Grandpa was driving truck, and Miranda was showing a horse, it was just me and my boys, as in Cameron and his boys and Uncle Dusty. We had pizza from the Pizza Hut and an ice cream cake from the Dairy Queen, none of which required any more effort from me than it took to write the checks. Comparing this year's photo to last year's, the little boys are looking a bit more mature, while their daddy looks the same. If you ask Bjorn or Mathias, they'll tell you it was a great party, which means it was a great party!

The beet harvest got rained out again, so Marv was home by 1:30 A.M. It sounds like it's going to be too wet for several days. As with all types of farming, Mother Nature has the ability to turn what would be a 10-day process into something much longer. I don't think Marv minded today's interruption too much as it afforded him the opportunity to join Dustin, his brother, and others at the hunting cabin. So far as I know, the new cabin is finished, and they're just getting ready (whatever that entails) for next month's deer hunt.

Left to my own devices, I'm going to stamp a little and address my "to do" list. With the news as gloomy as the weather, the television is going to be turned off and CD player some upbeat music turned on. I'm sure I'll be posting intermittently, so stop back if you get the chance. Between now and then, enjoy the weekend!

You should have titled your post Paper Sunshine! I like that term and I need to create some for myself. It's gloomy here, too! Jessica is improving, thank goodness, so maybe I'll be able to wander to my corner. Or create something digi...

I agree, you have very handsome boys and I'm happy to hear the party was a grand success!

OMG! Kathi, you will never believe that I made the exact same card yesterday. Although I didn't have anymore chipboard flowers like they used in the book, so I used Just Blooms instead. So funny! (Great minds think alike!) I will have to take a picture of my card and post it so you can see my version. I actually like yours better because I made mine a 6x6 like in the book. I don't send out many 6x6 cards because of the postage. I may just have to redo mine in a standard size like yours. *Ü*
