Faking It

Here's a simple card, inspired by this beauty on the Jennifer McGuire ink blog. When I saw it, I wondered if the same look could be achieved with faux stitching. The answer is ' kinda.' The pierced holes connected with a white gel pen certainly look like stitches but lack the texture of real stitching. While I'd love to do some real sewing on my cards, I seriously do not have the room for a full-size sewing machine in my itty, bitty corner, which is so jam packed these days there is hardly room for me!

Back to the card. I like the strips of paper that create a tone-on-tone look. I used one sheet of 6x6-inch Basic Grey paper, cutting the 4-1/4x5-1/2 inch base and then cutting what was left over into four 1/2-inch strips. I used a punch to cut the hearts and a sponge dauber with Chocolate ink around the edges to give them a little added dimension. They were mounted to the card using foam mounting tape. For the fun of it, I might drag my sewing machine out of the closet one of these days and try the same or similar card with real stitching just to make a face-to-face comparison.

Materials & Tools: White Daisy cardstock; Basic Grey Sultry 6x6-inch paper pad; Chocolate ink pad; Papertrey Ink Floral Frenzy stamp set; Heart punch; Sponge dauber; Piercing tool; Stampin' Up Piercing Guide and Mat; White Inkssentials opaque pen; 3M foam mounting tape.

Well, we've got Monday out of the way, and it was an OK day. While I hate to say/admit it, things are currently a bit slow at my desk. Before I voluntarily cut back on my hours, however, I'm going to work on some ideas I've had but have never previously had the time to work on. I'd rather take this 'downturn' time and try to do something positive than lay down and play dead. We'll see. Besides work, there isn't much going on. I'm about half way through The Shack and am finding it to be a compelling story. I hope you had a great day. Thanks for stopping! More from me tomorrow night ...

Kathi,
I loved that card on Jennifer's blog, too! I just didn't think about it hard enough - (giggle) - because it didn't occur to me that we could faux stitch the papers! What a great idea!!! Your card is beautiful - thanks for the inspiration (as always).

Great job, Kathi! I saw the card, too and think you did a wonderful job.

If you can't fit a sewing machine in your corner...how about a needle and thread? You could hand sew! Just a thought...for when you really want that extra texture!

Love ALL your work...as usual!

Kathi-love the card (love all your artwork). Just had to comment my book club is reading The Shack. Just picked up my copy at the local library and I think "compelling" is a great description.
