Taking a Break

Winter Neighborhood_2_Dec 2009

No, not me. I took my break. Scared ya, didn’t I? LOL.

Instead, with a baby due soon, Jen del Muro of i{heart}2stamp fame is taking a month off from her weekly A Sketch for You to Try challenge. I suppose that’s understandable. LOL. Seriously, I wish Jen the best and can’t think of a better reason to take a little hiatus.

About my card, when I noted in this post I would be using parts of my Winter Neighborhood image for smaller cards, I wasn’t necessarily thinking about anything quite this small. I’m pleased it worked out so well. What you can’t see is that the whole image sparkles. After coloring it with Prismacolor pencils, I cut a same-size circle from an Adhesive Sheet, placed it over the image, and then covered it with glitter. Instead of Prisma Glitter, I used Martha Stewart’s Crystal Fine glitter. It seems finer but isn’t as messy. It’s also very clear. Anyway, as is often the case, my card is cuter and has more sparkle in person.

Materials & Tools: White Daisy, Juniper, and Hollyhock cardstock; Jingle paper packet; Black and Hollyhock ink pads; Eat Cake Graphics Winter Neighborhood stamp and CTMH Thank You stamp set; Martha Stewart Crystal Fine glitter; Adhesive Sheets; 1-3/4 inch circle punch; 2-inch scallop punch; Cuttlebug w/Nestabilities Classic Circles set; Prismacolor colored pencils; 3M foam mounting tape.

Did you have a good day? I hope so. We cleaned up our Merry Christmas mess this morning. The little boys were here this afternoon. I did some laundry. All in all, a good day.

Oh, and before I go, a little stamp world gossip. With it’s 2010 Occasions Mini Catalog and 2010 Sale-A-Bration brochure, Stampin’ Up is going to offer a new clear-mount option along with its traditional wood-mount stamps. Maybe you already knew this. Maybe you don’t care. Me? I read about it here, and I’m saying it’s about time.

When SU clamped down on its demonstrators with regard to using and acknowledging other products on their blogs, etc., the company kind of fell out of favor with me. With the belief that social media has increased our exposure to products from other companies and changed the way we shop, I didn’t think it was a very friendly move on SU’s part. While every company has exclusive products, no company is exclusive. While quality sometimes varies, there are, nevertheless, a lot of good products from a lot of good companies.

I love the idea of the clear-mount option. Those wood blocks are a bit of a pain in the derrière to store. I love some of Stampin’ Up’s designs, too, and just might find it in my heart to forgive them long enough to get my hands on a few sets. LOL.

OK. After disappearing for a whole week, I probably shouldn’t talk your ears off. Have a great week, my friends! Later…

Awesome card, Kathi!

I'm glad you got your Christmas cleaned up. The offer still stands...

I'd heard about SU doing that, but haven't thought much about it one way or the other. I do agree that it's about time. I wonder if the wood sets will stay on the shelves and the clear mounts fly off. Hmmmmm

It's great to see you posting again. Although you deserve a break just as much if not more so than the rest of us. LOL

Love the card! I always have issues using just part of a stamped scene! You did it beautifully though!

Totally agree with you on your SU analysis :-)

Oh Thank Goodness! Kathi's back! The chatty Kathi!!! I've missed you.

You did scare me - "taking a break" - you have a strange sense of humor girlfriend.

This card is darling! The image is so tiny and sweet - I never knew that the Martha Stewart stuff was less messy - I will give that a try. I love prisma glitter (all brands!) and especially love the technique of coating the entire image - it's just so amazing in real life.

I laughed about your thoughts on SU. I'm with you there! I, too, love some of their styles but simply have a really hard time using wood mounted stamps! I'm so spoiled to the acrylic ones!!! This sounds like a good decision for them -

Hugs!

I adore what you did with that little snippet of the bigger image...just darling! I can't believe SU are finally caving and using clear blocks...!
At HL today I saw products that allow you do emboss with the Cricut...any image your cricut will cut you can now emboss with!!!! AND it will cut this product that you can adhere to a clear block and stamp with...so any shape your Cricut will cut you can now make into a stamp!!! I was stunned! The possibilities are endless.
Ok I digress ha ha!
